MEDIA, PA – The Middletown Free Library has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) said Rep. Chris Quinn (R-Delaware), who secured the funding.

“For more than 60 years, the library has been a valued asset to our community,” said Quinn. “This grant will help ensure area residents will be able to continue to enjoy the benefits of Middletown Free Library for years to come.”

The grant will help fund building renovations and site improvements associated with the relocation of the library to the Roosevelt Community Center. Additional site improvements will be made to the courtyard, including the installation of an inclusive playground and tot lot, stormwater management measures and improvements to the rear parking lot.

The Middletown Free Library started as a small book bus in 1956 and has grown into a full-size library, welcoming over 20,000 people into its locally and nationally acclaimed programs.

“We take pride in providing the highest level of service to all library users,” said Middletown Township Council chairman Mark Kirchgasser. “This grant will help the people of our community achieve their full potential through the transformative power of information, imagination, and ideas. We are grateful to Rep. Quinn for his enthusiastic support of our grant application.”

RACP is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act, have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity.

“I’m pleased the administration recognized the value of this project to Middletown Township, the surrounding community and the Commonwealth,” said Quinn.
