HARRISBURG –Rep. Chris Quinn (R-Delaware), in collaboration with Media and Chester Heights boroughs and Middletown, Edgmont, Newtown, Upper Providence and Thornbury townships, will host the 2019 World Water Day Olympics in Glen Mills next month to promote the importance of clean, potable water.

“In many areas around the world and even in this country, clean drinking water is not guaranteed,” said Quinn. “Third world countries suffer from a lack of infrastructure, and many communities in this country experience contamination from lead pipes and the leaching of contaminants into water wells.

“I am holding this event to celebrate World Water Day and to promote the sustainable management of clean, fresh water,” said Quinn. “Clean water is key to our good health and safety, and it is increasingly under threat. By raising awareness, I am hopeful we will never take clean water for granted.”

Quinn will be hosting the 2019 World Water Day Olympics on Friday, March 22, from 7-9 p.m. at the Glen Mills School indoor track, 185 Glen Mills Road in Glen Mills. The event is FREE of charge and will feature several fun events, including a Water Bucket Carry Challenge team relay race, a Water Bottle Flip Challenge and a Musical Water Balloon Game. The relay race is the only event requiring advance registration in order to organize teams of five participants. Interested individuals can register by calling Quinn’s office at (610) 325-1541. Registration deadline is March 15.

In addition to World Water Day activities, there will also be water quality educational demonstrations and information on state-related environmental programs.

“This will be a fun family event and I am particularly hopeful that area high school students will come out and participate,” said Quinn. “It is important that our children, as the future leaders in our communities and this nation, recognize that clean water is an important natural resource that must be protected and preserved for generations to come. This event will help to reinforce those values.”

The World Water Day Olympics is sponsored by Aqua America.
